How To Live Longer
Living a long life is useless if you outlive everyone around you and have a poor quality of life. This is why we also explore peace, joy, and other aspects of living a higher quality of life.
In this section we examine advice and real life information from those who have lived longer than normal lives. We will look at what the true experts on long life say and do; these "centurions," people who have really lived one hundred years or more. Learn from people who did it!
How Did They Live Longer? Examples:
Jeanne Calment lived 122 years said she began each day in prayer, to the God of the Bible. She then did mobility exercises, took a shower and rubbed her body in olive oil. She generally skipped breakfast preferring a cup or two of coffee. Her lunch was generally braised beef. She preferred red meat over other meats. Would have a glass of Port or cheap red wine daily. She ate at least two pounds of chocolate per week, and enjoyed dessert after every meal. She covered meals in olive oil, teaching that olive oil inside and out was one of her secrets. She had a sense of humor claiming she had only one wrinkle and she was sitting on it. She also taught that her longevity was do to an active life, she rode bike daily until she was one hundred years old, roller-skated, hunted, went swimming, and played tennis most of her life. Friends said she never worried about problems, she played piano, painted, and focused on making her life happy. She claimed her secrets to long life were Port wine, chocolate, and olive oil.
Sister André, a nun who was born in 1904, is living in Southern France at 118, still alive as of April, 2022. She is very polite and has a relaxed attitude saying, pandemics, problems, "they come and they go". She is a person of faith, believing in the God of the Bible, spent most of her life as a Nun, teacher, and child care worker. She spent most of her life helping people from children to the elderly. Her environment is a clean coastal city, living near the beach. Her daily habits include, eating chocolate, drinking on glass of wine per day.
Kane Tanaka, Japan, 1903 lived to 119 years old. She kept her mind active by getting up at 6:00 am and studying maths. She was an athlete in her earlier years, winning championships in wrestling. She also had a sense of humor and love for chocolate. When given a box of chocolate for her birthday she was asked, "How many chocolates will you eat today." She immediately opened the box of chocolate and replied, "100." She said her favorite foods were fizzy drinks, (often CocaCola), coffee, and chocolate. She enjoyed cake, whipped cream, strawberries and a variety of food and sweets. She said there is nothing she can think of that she don't like. She ate rice, fish, and soup in her daily diet. Asked about her favorite foods she replied: “Hakata Ramen, Motsu Nabe (offal stew), Mentaiko (Fish Roe), Mizutaki (Chicken hotpot), the Yatai food stalls — the list goes on and on.” She also claimed her long life was the result of her faith in God, chocolate, getting up early, doing math problems, being positive and hopeful and talking/good communication with lots of people, including her good family. Other hobbies included: writing, playing Othello,(board game) and calligraphy. Her number one advice was; "Never give up hope."
